Sunland Derby Race History

The Road to the Kentucky Derby series makes a stop in New Mexico for the Sunland Derby (G3). Best known for producing Mine That Bird, who finished fourth in the 2009 Sunland Derby before going on to upset the Kentucky Derby at 50-1 odds, the 1 1/8-mile race offers points on a 20-10-6-4-2 basis to the top five finishers. The program for the 19th running of the Sunland Derby also features the Sunland Park Oaks, which will award points toward a Kentucky Oaks berth.
